Southern Alleghenies Woodturners

Our mission is to share our experiences with members, learning and inspiring each other. We strive to reach out to our community through education and demonstrations, sharing our craft and the rich tradition of woodturning with all.

Welcome!

In 2024 a group of turners from the greater Johnstown, PA area decided to start a local woodturning club. Many of us had been driving to clubs that were a fair distance from Johnstown, so a local club felt like a good idea. In a relatively short time, the Southern Alleghenies Woodturners was born, and it wasn't long before we became a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. At the moment we are a small club, but we are fortunate to have a membership with a wealth of experience and talent that many clubs can only dream of. If you are a turner, woodworker or only curious, you are invited to any meeting or event. Come enjoy a cup of coffee, meet some remarkable craftsmen, and get to know us better.
Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary.

Pattern Maker's Lathe

The rich history of woodworking in our region is what our club plans to highlight with our centerpiece, restored and fully functional 1880’s pattern maker’s lathe. This exquisite machine is typical of the lathes used over 145 years ago. Join us by following our progress towards the moment when beautiful Pennsylvania hardwoods are once again shaped by skilled craftsmen.

We look forward to celebrating the woodcraft of the Pennsylvania Alleghenies and participating in the amazing history of our community.
